Dynamic characterization and control of opto-tunable lenses, published in Optics Express

Tunable lenses are increasingly popular in applications including microscopy, optical coherence tomography, computer vision, quality control, and presbyopic corrections, some of them requiring an accurate control of the optical power of the lens in response to a time-dependent input waveform. In a paper recently published in Optics Express, we present a fast focimeter (3.8 KHz) to characterize the dynamic response of tunable lenses. We demonstrated the compensation of the temporal distortions in the transient responses of optotunable lenses, broadening their potential in high-speed applications. This approach used in the Sim+Vis technology, using a temporal multiplexing approach to simulate multifocal lenses used to correct for presbyopia.

New in the lab: Carmen Lago

We welcome Carmen Lago (BSc in Optics & Optometry, Universidad de Murcia) who is joining VioBio Lab (CSIC) and spin-off company 2EyesVision under an Industrial Doctorate Program funded by Madrid Regional Government. Carmen holds a MSc in Optometry an Vision Sciences by Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña and MSc in Photonics and laser technologies by Universidad de Vigo. She has an extended experience in clinical practice (working in hospitals and eye clinics). She performed an internship and master thesis in SCHWIND-Eye-Tech Solutions (Germany), where she trained in excimer laser for refractive surgery; and she conducted research at LOUM (Unversidad de Murcia) on adaptive optics visual simulators.

New in the lab: Jesús Palací

We welcome Jesús Palací, joining VioBio Lab from spin-off company 2EyesVision, where he will work in the context of the H2020 Innovation Action IMCUSTOMEYE, in the development of new OCT-based diagnostic tools in ophthalmology.

Jesús obtained a PhD in Telecommunication from Universitat Politècnica de València. He gained experience in the design and development of photonic systems working for start-up companies in the telecom and medtech fields. His current interests include OCT technology and its application.
